She shares her heart of how she spent almost a decade decluttering which was born out of her struggle with infertility and her hopes of one day having space for a baby.

She relatably shares how we’re all responsible for our own stuff, and then we get married and have kids and we feel like we’re a full time stuff manager. Can you relate?

As a wife and a mom, let’s organize and declutter not for the sake of being on top of our homes, lets not organize and simplify for the sake of having a pinterest perfect home, but let’s do it because we’re made for more than being full time stuff managers. We have to clear the excess so we can live in that calling.

  • What are 4 things that clutter robs us from?
    • Time - having to tidy & organize or clean around things, the “stuff shuffle”
      • In a uncluttered home there’s 40% less housework
    • Peace - clutter stresses us out, no matter our clutter threshold
      • It actually affects our cortisol levels.
    • Physical Health
      • Clutter impacts your sleep because your brain registers clutter as undone tasks.
    • Energy
      • Declutter fatigue is a real thing and it’s causing us to feel stuck.

If we can remove unnecessary decisions we can have more energy to make decisions that matter.

Emily McDermott is a wife, mother of two energetic boys, and simplicity seeker.
